Why

Why is it that the lint knows to go into the lint holder thingamajig in the dryer.

The lint trap is put in the air stream as a saftey device. If it wasn't there lint would collect in your dryer exhaust hose and possibly catch fire, and burn your house down

Is there something like that in the washer that collects socks?

Interesting question, that. I'll add a strictly personal observation: I've not lost one single solitary sock... not ONE... since I became single and started doing my own laundry. (And no, The Second Mrs. Pennington wasn't the ONLY person who did laundry in the old household; I did MY share, as well.)

You may interpret this observation / phenomenon as you see fit. ;-)

Buck, that is a bit of a tongue twister. Maybe being single is the way to keep every single sock.

actually, I think that the missing sock conundrum and the collection of lint in the dryer are related somehow
