Why do we fill the need to use gossip as a form of conversation? Again my motto is if you don't have anything nice to say then please shut your mouth..
I had a very lovely women quit her job due to gossip. I wish people would remember the consequences of those types of actions....

Nicely said, I usually say "don't say anything at all", but I like "shut your mouth" better.
some people are still stuck in what I call "high-school mentality"
I agree with you about 90%, Shelly. I'm not immune from gossip, and I enjoy picking through someone else's dirty laundry, from time to time. The key is keeping gossip in its place. I gossip with my immediate family and VERY close friends (and I mean VERY: as in "trust with your life"). But NEVER in the workplace, and NEVER as casual conversation with acquaintances.
So...what IS up with OJ, anyway? (JOKE...It's a joke!!) ;-)
triplee,
I use to like "don't say anything at all", to nice, it didn't get MY point across.
Shelly
Buck,
You sure are right about being careful and keeping it in it's place.
OJ comment made me LOL..
I am with you on this one. Why people like to start drama and say things behind one another's backs is beyond me. I actually worked in a place where gossip was not practiced at all and there were mostly women working. If we had a problem with someone it was expected that the two would deal with it together and leave everyone else out of it. That's the way I like to deal with things.
People like other people. We like to watch other people and we like to talk about each other. Sometimes it is just pure interest in others. Sometimes it is spreading lies. It is always good to check sources and motive behind talk.
My elderly mom works in a beauty shop and hangs with some other elderly ladies. I'm constantly saying, "Mom, where did you hear that, why do you think that is true, and maybe you should not repeat that." Sometimes I dread conversation with her.
I have always admired Mrs. Rabbit. After saying something unkind about Bambi, Mrs. Rabbit asks Thumper to recall what his father told him. Clearing his throat Thumper says, "If you cant say somethin' nice...don't say nothin' at all.
missed this post....
When I walk up on people having these conversations, I like to add in...oh, a productive conversation I see...let me know how that all works out for you all.....
I hate idle gossip...but we are all part of it....it is human nature...but it is hateful and hurtful when it is taken too far...so I remain out of it....well unless it's about me.....then it is out of my control, and I don't worry about it then.
My daughters get drug into it and I remind them that it hurts and I don't want to hear it spoken in my home and I inform their friends of the same....
Trying to raise better kids then my parents did.
