Can you say Ouch

So The Kid has been training in hand to hand combat. So needless to say he is pretty much black and blue from head to toe... Although he said it was scary, an adrenalin rush, coolest thing he has done so far, hurts like hell, and oh yeah mom we do it again tomorrow.. What do you say to that? I just listen and every few sentences gasp and say wow. I hear in his voice how confident he is, and listen to him talk about everything he is learning, and how far he is pushing himself. It is a weird sort of relieve to know that he is so capable of taking care of himself and his fellow soldier... He is all grown up and I couldn't be prouder..

Ah...the fine art of combatives....painful but a hoot to the tough guys...

I love hearing about him and how training is going, not much longer and he will be home!

Your son sounds like a mighty fine young man. I, too, love hearing about him and your reaction to his training. You have done well.

I couldn't agree more. And I think I understand your concerns as a Mom, Shelly. It's kinda-sorta the same for Dads, too, believe it or don't. But we're ALL proud!

The training is so hard, but you are absolutely right -- it does make you feel better knowing that they are going into things fully prepared. You have every right to be very proud of him!

Here's a one-handed-takedown:

Guys normally punch witheir R, so if you blok using a brush sweep, it immediately sets-you-up to grab the OTHER arm...

for an Aikido move:
Use your thumb to press down
on the back of his hand
and swiftly turn it over,
leading the attacker down.
GameOver.

If you wanna,
you can move his arm
into any different number of positions,
causing him severe pain...

or you can be nice
and wait till the friendly cops arrive.
God bless you.
